I'm Stuart Henderson, and I've spent 15+ years living abroad — over a decade of it in Nicaragua, along with time in the Philippines, Bulgaria, and Georgia. I started out as a firefighter in Canada, then traded fixed shifts for life overseas, working as a photographer and building digital projects along the way.
Nicaragua is where the idea for ECS took hold. I'd settled into its towns and communities and watched other expats arrive with the same problem I'd had: no reliable way to find a trustworthy English-speaking lawyer, accountant, or property specialist. The advice online was scattered, referrals were hit-or-miss, and people were making big decisions — residency, property, taxes — on guesswork.
So we built the network we wished we'd had. ECS started in Nicaragua and is now live in Georgia too. In January 2027 I'm returning to Georgia myself and documenting the whole move in real time — the permit rules, the neighbourhood decisions, the banking setup — so what you read here comes from doing it, not researching it from a distance.
